Ancient Relations Between India and China

Mogao Caves in China

Writings

India and China were part of a civilizational complex. While the names of a few Chinese visitors like Hieun Tsang and Fa Hien are well known, there were in fact a long stream of visitors going both ways. Among Indians, the names of Dharma-Ratna and Kumarjiva particularly stand out. Buddhism stands as the great and profound symbol of cultural unity between the two civilizations. Ancient Chinese literature refers to India as Tian Zhu (heavenly India).
