India and China are great Asian civilizations that were conquered and humiliated by the West with the help of collaborators among their own people. The period of colonialism was a period of famine, illiteracy and economic breakdown in India and China saw huge famines as well as the worsening of the conditions of the landlord system and the domination of their industry. In both nations, the peasantry bore the brunt of the exploitation. It was out of this peasantry that the two parallel struggles for liberation; the Chinese revolution and the Indian freedom struggle, emerged and were fought.
Many strong relationships developed between the two struggles and people in the period of the anti-colonial struggle which gave rise to rich art and literature, influenced world politics by giving a platform to peace, and gave birth to a deep feeling of brotherhood. Both nations were part of the Bandung movement which brought together formerly colonized nations of the world for the creation of a new world order based on peace, mutual cooperation, and the upliftment of humanity.
